Set up Vox with Superwhisper

Recommended settings for using Vox as the microphone and trigger for Superwhisper.

Superwhisper handles the transcription, Vox provides the microphone and the button.

1. Turn off Vox dictation

   Otherwise both tools transcribe at once and you get the text twice. See Use another dictation tool instead.

2. Set Vox as Superwhisper's microphone

   In Superwhisper, open Settings and set the input device to Vox. See Use Vox as a microphone anywhere.

3. Find Superwhisper's activation hotkey

   Superwhisper Settings shows the shortcut for each mode. Note the one you use most.

4. Map a Vox button to it

   In Vox, open Buttons and set a press to send that shortcut. See Map shortcuts to your buttons.

Superwhisper handles its own audio processing. Vox noise suppression is currently an internal experiment and is not available as a user-facing setting. If it becomes available, leave it off for the recommended setup or try it only when your environment needs extra cleanup.

Modes

Superwhisper has multiple modes with separate hotkeys. Vox has three gestures per button across three buttons, so you can map several modes at once. A setup that works well:

Gesture	Mode
White press	Your default dictation mode
White double press	Enter by default; configure another mode if needed
Red press	A second mode, for example an email or message mode

Troubleshooting

Superwhisper records silence

Check that Vox is connected and that Superwhisper has microphone permission for the Vox input specifically.

The button does nothing

The hotkey has to match exactly. Reopen Superwhisper’s settings, confirm the combination, and re-record it in Vox.

Text appears twice

Vox dictation is still on. Turn it off.
